Abstract

An experiment was set out to study nitrogen losses in a Latosolic B Terra Roxa after sulfur-coated ureua (SCU) and non-coated urea were applied in three different doses and pH adjusted to 6.5 and in a natural soil pH. Higher losses of nitrogen (N-NH+ + N-NO-) by leaching occured at higher fertilizer doses, but SCU reduced those losses through slow release of the elemenent. Nitrogen leaching increased with soil pH independently of the fertilizer used; howeverm no influence of the soil pH on N liberation of SCU pellet was observed.
