"Applied Anthropology" is a lecture given by Evans-Pritchard to the Anthropological Society of Oxford University in 1945 and, as yet unpublished in Portuguese. This is valuable material for the study of the author and of social anthropology, in which subjects left aside in better-known lectures take centre stage: the anthropological career, the work of the anthropologist in fields outside his original training and the future of research in anthropology. Contributing from his own experience, the author reflects on the relationship between anthropologists and colonial administration, the lack of jobs, as administrator or as professor, insufficient funding for field research and the consequences of these impediments to the advancement of anthropology as a science. Evans-Pritchard's clarity, notorious in his other speeches, is also apparent here, as he advocates solid academic training, with long field experiences, for any anthropologist and the importance of independent research centres.
