Cultura como rechazo creativo

Resumen

Estamos acostumbrados a interpretar muchos aspectos de la cultura en términos esencialistas o tácitamente evolucionistas. Estos pueden ser mejor vistos como actos de un rechazo auto consciente o formados por medio de un proceso de cismogénesis de definición mútua contra valores de las sociedades vecinas. Las llamadas "sociedades heróicas", por ejemplo, parecen  haber formado su denominación por el rechazo consciente de los valores de las civilizaciones urbanas de la Edad de Bronce. Considerar los orígenes y la historia inicial de los Malgache sugiere un rechado consciente del mundo ecuménico islámico del Oceano Índico, afectando un orden social que puede ser, acertadamente, descrito como auto conscientemente anti heróico.
