Abstract

This study has a major goal to understand the significance of female education in Sergipe, in the first decades of XX century, through three major main movements: the analysis of possibilities of schooling; the study of the process of social insertion and of public visibility conveyed by the press; and the interpretation of thepathways of some women, who where liberal professionals pioneerly. The challenge of a social-historical approach, for analyzing the problematic of female education, is taken in the perspective of seeking relationships between what appears in the spreeches and official proposals, as well as by what is stated by the press, and by what was built by a privileged group of women form Sergipe.
