Abstract

Mário de Andrade Library owns the second biggest Brazilian hoard of books. Founded in 1926, reached its culmination between the 40’s and 60’s. Since then, the lack of interest and investments of the successive governments, the social changes and the influence of the means of communication lead it into a declining institution. In 2007, it was closed for an ample process of reforms in order to revitalize it. The present paper aims to demonstrate that Mário de Andrade Library will only be able to recover its place by  accomplishing a wide project that contemplates aspects as the yearnings and expectations of the users, the integration of the library with its surroundings and the rescue of its role in culture dissemination, as well as a place for people to interact.
