Abstract

In this article, I address the relationship between science and science fiction stories produced by a group of writers called The Futurians, which existed from 1938 to 1945. To that end, I discuss the notion of science present in the United States and how it was used by science fiction. Related to this, I approach the “heroes” of the stories. In the third section, I talk about a little discussed but highly influential person, Charles Fort, and how his ideas spread across science fiction. Finally, I analyze how Thomas Kuhn's idea of science in crisis can be used to think about the science of science fiction stories, especially those involving the mind and its “powers”, such as telepathy.
