Abstract

Turbulence and Spilt Milk, two novels by Chico Buarque, are presented as important contributions to think the contemporary Brazil. In this sense, this article will seek to clarify the historical and social assumptions present in such books, based on the readings taken by Roberto Schwarz on them. In this way, we intend to articulate the diagnosis of Schwarz on Brazil contemporary with the way such a diagnosis is made in two books of Chico Buarque. It should be clarified that these dimensions are articulated not only in a univocal sense. Finally, the article aims to show parallels that posted novels may have with contemporary reflections of other authors linked to what is usually called “Brazilian critical tradition”.
