The serum levels of total lipids, calcium, phosphorus, magnesium and bilirrubins were studied in 75 black and white Dutch breed, empty heifers, heifers in different stages of gestation and in the puerperium period. In the serum levels of total lipids, calcium, phosphorus and magnesium no variations were observed, but the values of total bilirrubin showed a significant increase in the puerperium. The results obtained for the group of empty heifers, animals in their initial gestation phase, between 4 and 6 months of gestation heifers at the end of gestation and cows during the puerperium were respectively as follow:
Total lipids (mg%) — 344,4; 329,7; 336,5; 337,9 and 359,9
calcium (mg%) - 10,37; 11,62; 11,13; 10,31 and 10,73
phosphorus (mg%) — 6,59; 6,54; 6,19; 6,07 and 6,10
magnesium (mg%) — 26,27; 27,57; 26,73; 27,09 and 27,05
total bilirrubin (mg%) — 0,185; 0,197; 0,207; 0,221 and 0,257
direct bilirrubin (mg %) — 0,050; 0,035; 0,046; 0,049 and 0,075
indirect bilirrubin (mg%) — 0,135; 0,162; 0,161; 0,172 and 0,182
