Prevalence of helminth infections in cats in the city of São Paulo, SP

In a survey of 54 cats autopsied in the city of São Paulo there were found O. caninum, 63%; T. cati, 53,7%; A. braziliense, 37,0%,- A. caninum/A. tubaeforme, 25,9%; P. praeputialis , 18,5%; B. abstrusus, 18,5%; P. rara, 14,8%; T. taeniaeformis , 13,0%; Strongyloides sp., 5,6,S%; T. canis, O. tricuspis, P. arnaldoi, P. fastosum, 3,7% each, and Soirometra, 1,8%. Single infection was found in 20.4%; and multiple infections in 74.1% of examined animals. T. canis, Strongyloides sp, and P. arnaldoi were identified for the first time in the city of São Paulo; whereas Ollulanus tricuspis and rara , were identified for the first time in Brazil.
