Abstract

In an edition of the Journal "Mirante das Artes" (1967), Lina Bo Bardi writes an article called "In the limit of popular housing." The article explains Acácio Gil Borsói's architectural project for the construction of popular housing in the Community of "Cajueiro Seco" (Jaboatão - Pernambuco - 1963). Lina Bo Bardi also has the possibility to design popular dwellings for the Community of Camurupim (Propriá - Sergipe - 1975-1976). This article aims to show the connections between the procedures and assumptions of these two proposals for popular housing, which also involve the urban infrastructure of the two communities. It also aims to present the relationship between these projects and the cultural, social and political circumstances in Brazil, before and during the military dictatorship.
