This article seeks to discuss a set of contemporary Brazilian films – Batguano (Tavinho Teixeira, 2014), Nova Dubai (New Dubai, Gustavo Vinagre, 2014) and Estudo em vermelho (A study in red, Chico Lacerda, 2013) – that use film and video fragments in their composition, as well as references and citations to repertoires of cinema, media culture and digital cultures, to thus constitute their sensibilities and diegetic worlds. Such elements become available for filmmakers through procedures of allusion and appropriation, and through the dissemination of audiovisual elements provided by “digital reproducibility” as a pervasive practice in contemporary culture.
