We analyze the first feature film directed by a black woman in Cuba, One way or another (1974-1977) by Sara Gomez, verifying the dialectics and the power of separation/threshold (fiction, documentary) as conditions of expression of a political cinema engaged in a socio-historical transformation and in the production of critical awareness. We adopt three essential dichotomies that are dismembered and associated with each other: documentary-fiction, which structures the mechanism of the film; revolution-marginalization, the foundation of the argument; and sexism-feminism, which we analyze more closely based on the narrative of mise-en-scene and montage.
