Abstract

This article analyzes the struggle for the land and its conquest in Brazil. Landoccupation is the main way of struggle employed by peasants on socioterritorialmovements in Brazil and the State, as reply to such actions of struggle, creates ruralsettlements. From some contradictions formerly exposed, the policy of rural settlementsof the Brazilian government is analyzed as a strategy for not performing acomprehensive agrarian reform in the country. Due to its restrictions, the policy of ruralsettlements constitute the conservative agrarian reform performed in Brazil since thispolicy cannot deconcentrate the land, reduce social inequality or avoid the rural exodus, moreover it has Amazon as a conservative alternative for not reforming consolidatedoccupation regions in the Center-South and in North-East.
