Abstract

The history of Argentinian women artists is yet to be written. However, they have become a subject of interest for researchers, who are now trying to recover the careers of women artists hitherto obliterated from art history surveys. One of the key figures of the artistic scene in Argentina during the 1920s and 1930s was Lía Correa Morales, a regular presence at the most prestigious art exhibitions and winner of many awards. The death of her husband, the celebrated sculptor Rogelio Yrurtia, in 1950 made it possible for her to become the director of a museum, a rare case at the time. But the correlate to this achievement was the neglect of her own and succesful career in art. In this paper, we will tackle with this period of the life of Lía Correa Morales through the study of personal and official documentation as well as reflect on her presence in the museum she directed for over twenty years and where most of her oeuvre is preserved.
