The dilation of the provisional in friendship relations in Glosa by Juan José Saer

Friendship is the main bond between the characters in Glosa (1986), by Juan José Saer (1937-2005). This relationship is fundamental to the construction of this narrative, but few critics have addressed such bond in the novel. We analyze friendship in Glosa as a community practice in which friends celebrate this connection, walk and talk - brief moments, but pleasantly dilated. This group reunite mainly in two space-times: a party and a walk. The festive atmosphere materializes in the interaction between the characters in these meetings and in the narrative voice, which pauses in the lengthy delight of the words. We dialogue mainly with texts by Agamben, Derrida and Barthes and we conclude that Glosa is a literary text of aesthetic enjoyment because its narrator and characters prolong provisional moments of friendship in the time of writing and reading. Narrative voice and friends deviate from the communicative purpose of language and everyone is attentive to the pleasure that a conversation provokes.
