This paper aims to present some observations about the constituent elements of the graphic novel The art of flying, by Antonio Altarriba and the cartoonist Kim, among them the narrative process and the effect of constructing metaphorical images to illustrate thoughts and feelings of the protagonist, Antonio Altarriba father. Taking advantage of this analysis, we punctuate valuable concepts to Spanish authors that are contemporary to the historical context of the work in question, the Spanish Civil War, as José Bergamín and María Zambrano, as death, time and fatherhood.
