This article aims to observe the relationship between ideology and myth in the work of the Peruvian writer José Maria Arguedes, considering José Carlos Mariátegui’s work. The incorporation of myth in the literary discourse is a political-artistic project found both in the criticism and in the work of these writers, as analyzed by Ángel Rama and Antonio Candido, which established a certain dominant epistemology in Latin-American critic discourse. The purpose here is to explore, from a perspective of Critique of Postcolonial and Subaltern Studies, this relationship between myth, underdevelopment and ideology in literature, aiming to observe whether this same relation operates on the base of a possible “epistemology trap” of Latin-American critical and cultural production, with implications in the narratives produced and in the hermeneutic project of the Continent.
