Abstract

The quotidian and reality of trash scavengers (catadores) and homeless ar not much notorious for educators. The majority of these has restricted vision of the situation. This research brings to the light the day by day routine of trash scavengers and homeless in order to give to educators a broad vision about the research subject, helping them to work better themes as prejudice, exclusion, recycling and others regarding the subjects' lives. Accomplished at Vale do Paraíba, this research has focused on formal education, employment issues, day by day scavenging, relationship with the police, illegal activities, relationship with the community and family. It was found out the idea that they have about themselves and their perception about what others think about them. It was also verified what middle class knows about scavengers and homeless.
