The genesis of the debate and the concept of quilombo

Abstract

The article "The Genesis of debate and the Concept of Quilombo" emerges in contemporary political and scientific discussions on the conceptual approach of quilombos. In this context, so marked by the plurality of understandings about the concept of quilombo as reality, argue especially, but not exclusively, militants/ intellectuals of the Black Social Movement, historians and anthropologists. The outcome of these discussions leads to some of the conceptual notions about quilombos, with which are found in various social bodies, such as: expressions of cultural and political resistance; ethnic groups and culturally differentiated; collective identity processes; new subject of social and cultural rights , Only to highlight a few. In this fertile field theory, we propose to do some of these contributions stemming various fields of knowledge and social action, which re (produce) visions and make speeches relevant for the purposes of unveiling some nuances of the conceptual problem of quilombos. To better situate these discussions elected as the period the XXth century, establishing a focus of analysis prepared on the prospects quilombos, from thirty years - the period of reference in the organizations and their black intellectuals - until the eighties - when the outbreak of discussion by contemporary factors such as social re-democratization, academic revitalization around the ethno-racial relations and demands for effective rights and citizenship for black people.
