Abstract

One cannot understand the Movida without Almodovar, and one cannot understand Almodóvar without the Movida, that iconoclast stream, linked to post-modernity, pop-art, and the punk stream that broke Spain out after almost forty years of Franquism, and nourished every aspect of the Spanish culture in the 80s, from comics to movies, from literature to music, theatre, or design. The objective of this text is to consider the first part of Pedro Almodavar's filmography , from Pepi, Luci Bom and other girls on the Heap (1980) to The Law of Desire (1986), under the particular angle of its links with the Movida in post-franco Spain.
