According to Hannah Arendt, it is believed that anyone who is involved in any educational process should think himself also as "responsible" for the world. "The teachers' qualification consists on submitting the world to their knowledge and be able to educate others about this, but their authority is based on what they assume it is their responsibility for this world" (ARENDT, 1979, p. 239). From that reflection, this research focuses on understanding teachers' vision on their "authority", or to what extent teachers' work not only is limited to technical competence of a specific knowledge which should be transmitted, but also to their commitment to the learner who is inserted in the wider society, where both share experiences despite the imbalance between their respective between cinema and education. Some issues were raised with respect to experience teaching in public schools. The showing of films on the topic to a group of school teachers from a EMEF of Sao Paulo allowed to understand how they saw themselves represented by media and wider society; after the debate, individual interviews were conducted, and it could be demonstrated, in most cases, that the loss of teacher's authority is consequence of the doubt about the proper legacy of tradition school.Downloads
