Abstract

This article examines the conditions of emergency and the dynamic of use of manifestations and public protests in the defense of environmental causes. The methodology focused the relations between the use of such forms of protest, the types of defended causes and the social characteristics of the organizations and the leaderships that promote and support such mobilizations. The research demonstrated that the modifications of repertoires of action in the defense of environmental causes are related to the increase of the instrumental uses of the university and professional formation, to the intensification of the multiple activism and to the transformation of the social bases and the dynamic of entrance in such activism.
