Social inequality and memory among elderly slum dwellers: cultural challenges

Abstract

This research concerns senior workers living in the shanty town 'Beco de Sousas' in the city of Campinas (SP). The aim is to rethink the concept of 'new inequality' in order to review the term 'social exclusion' and discuss issues related to the transmission of moral, ethical and identity values. These workers inherit from their ancestors certain moral and ethical values. Nonetheless, they feel uneasy about the new generations. So diverse life experiences require rethinking the studies conducted based on workers social memory given the growing inequality in society.
