Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze the textbook "Páginas Literárias", written by Francisco Silveira Bueno and published in the 40's in the twentieth century, which was meant for secondary school boys. The work is divided into three parts, entitled: Family, School and Homeland. The texts were analyzed in order to investigate how the author intended "to instil in the soul of the student the qualities that the Homeland and the Religion demanded from their children", an aspect emphasized by him in the "preface to the teachers". Francisco Silveira Bueno was a teacher at the Escola Normal Modelo of São Paulo, of Mackenzie College and also professor of Portuguese Philology at the University of São Paulo. This investigation is based on the assumptions of the History of the School Disciplines and Cultural History and intends to contribute to the understanding of elements of the educational production during the period of the New State.
