Aiming to present the basis of a treaty of rural sociology according to Henri Lefèbvre's thought, this paper considered the decade between the years 1948 and 1958 from the empirical and theoretical experience of the French Marxist philosopher and sociologist. Moreover, presented arguments that suggest the importance of rural sociology and how it enables a new understanding of the meaning of the earth. In the first one, it sets out the main Lefèbvres' criticism on empiricist rural Sociology. In the second, it presents the premises of the regressive-progressive method, lefebvrian methodological basis of the treaty. In the third, there is a record of brief notes on the José de Souza Martins' rural sociology, a Brazilian sociologist who relied on concepts and categories of Henri Lefèbvre in his studies on the agrarian question in Brazil. In the fourth phase, emphasis is given to the thought of Henri Lefèbvre and the basis of his treatise on rural sociology. The fifth moment reflects on the new meaning of the earth, evoking rural sociology.Downloads
