Journals History

The Departamento de Comunicações e Artes da Escola de Comunicações e Artes da Universidade de São Paulo (CCA/ECA/USP) brings together professors who carry out interdisciplinary research to understand the phenomenon of technological mediations, media languages and culture. Thus, the idea arises of disseminating this knowledge and the results of these researches through a magazine capable of reaching the interested public – teachers, researchers, educators, producers, artists who wanted to obtain information regarding this interdisciplinarity – in the communication/education interrelation.

In order to make the creation of a journal with such characteristics viable, it was decided, in 1994, to partner with private publishers. Thus, the publishers Moderna, Segmento, Salesiana and Paulinas made the publication possible during the first 20 years of the magazine's regular existence. Thus, Comunicação & Educação was created to try to overcome the outdated vision with which the means of communication are usually treated. This vision is expressed in rigid, traditional postures, incapable of recognizing the importance of the means of communication or, on the other hand, in an exaggerated fascination with the media that can result in the absence of criticality. In view of this proposition, the journal Comunicação & Educação defends, in addition to critical reading of the media, the search for knowledge that allows us to reflect on how to appropriate the languages of communication for the production of other possible narratives in the context of the construction of democracy , citizenship and respect for human rights.
