Abstract

The development of research on creativity is essential for advances and innovations in different contexts and domains, especially the scientific one, helping in the identification of opportunities and varied problems, as well as in the generation of new approaches and solutions. As an important problem-solving tool, creative thinking can be very beneficial for science in general, yet there are many gaps regarding this interaction. A detailed understanding of creativity in all its dimensions becomes fundamentally important in the face of increasingly complex problems. Based on this, this research aimed to identify possible contributions of creativity in the scope of scientific production. To this end, a bibliographic research was carried out in books and scientific articles to define the concepts of creativity and scientific creativity, as well as to survey the main characteristics concerning the topics: creativity; scientific creativity; creative person; creative process; researcher/scientist; and scientific method. The results showed that scientists can be considered creative people and that techniques and tools to stimulate creativity can be implemented in scientific activities, so that researchers are encouraged to explore and investigate innovative paths.
