Perversion of the use of university rankings in national and supranational educational policies

Abstract

University rankings are analyzed as a tool for government decision-making in the design and implementation of university educational policies by national and supranational educational institutions. Work made from a critical point of view, in which a brief overview is made of the creation of the first rankings as well as a quick review of the most relevant ones, to then proceed to carry out a description of the main methodological and use criticisms of these tools, to end up identifying in which countries and procedures the rankings are being used, as well as making an assessment of the value of such use by political leaders to generate their university and evaluation policies. identifying that its use generates a series of errors and injustices in university systems and universities in political decision-making.
