Abstract

In the fourteenth century the crisis imposed scarcity. A Portugal already weakened by an unfavorable trade balance was marked by crises of supply and plagues, apart from its constant involvement wars with Castile. That is, it was a century of lack of bread, of devastation and looting. However, lepers seem to escape the widespread scarcity.
