Abstract

The movie Contact, based on a 1995 Carl Sagan’s homonyms book, exposes an interesting process of changing the beliefs of its protagonist throughout the narrative, whose transition from dogmatic rationalism to mitigated skepticism allows us to make connections with the history of skeptical philosophy, especially of the modern age. The movie also shows us that skepticism can be experienced, being a path that allows a greater opening for acceptance of the world’s multiplicity of beliefs and theoretical pluralism.
