Historian Afonso Taunay was also an attentive dictionary writer of scientific and technical terms, an aspect little known today. In this review, three of his works are presented, with emphasis on his nationalist positions that emphasize the need to register subjects already recurring in his time, many of them connected with innovations and areas of studies that were developed in the first half of the 20th century.
