Paulo Marques dos Santos joined the IAG/USP in 1948 as a Technical Assistant in Meteorology, becoming in charge of the Meteorological Station of the IAG/USP in 1955, a position he held until his compulsory retirement in 1997. With a degree in Physics, a Master's in Solar Physics and a PhD in Astrophysics, he witnessed and actively participated in each stage of the institutional evolution of the Instituto Astronômico e Geofísico (today Instituto de Astronomia, Geofísica e Ciências Atmosféricas) at USP. Since he died on September 17th 2022, this is a memoir in his honor, which tries to recapitulate his life of commitment, hope, sacrifices and victories.
