Abstract

This article presents a discussion concerning interaction, genre and text plan in personal letters from textual and interactional perspectives. The study is based on notions of verbal interaction, genre, and text plan, aiming to describe, analyze and interpret linguistic and textual evidences through personal letters. The research corpus is comprised of a letter written by Luis da Câmara Cascudo, addressed to Mário de Andrade, selected from a set of correspondences gathered into one volume under the title Cascudo and Mário de Andrade, Letters, 1924-1944. This study is carried out using a qualitative approach, focusing on social practices used by interactants to achieve specific goals through letters. Thus, reflections on this object have highlighted it as a form of sociability and involvement among people who use a genre in interactions and construct texts through fixed and occasional plans.
