Abstract

This article aims to interpret the construction of the ascetic paradigm in the work of Palladius of Helenopolis, Lausiac History, taking into account its formative and contextual input in the early fifth century AD. In addition, reflections on the space occupied by new representations of authority in Late Antiquity are of primary relevance in the terminological construction of the so called ascetic "holy man".
