Abstract

This article aims to present how the dissemination of Zeus Olympios’ cult from his main sanctuary, Olympia, to the pólis during the sixth and fifth centuries B.C. was motivated by the making of the Greek identity in this period, and how the cult of the god, at the same time that circulated predominantly in a network of Dorian pólis, had a prominent role in the integration process of ethnic groups of Greeks (Dorians, Ionians, Aeolians and Achaeans).
