Musica ficta and recta in Magnum Haereditatis Myste-rium: an Hexachordal Analysis of Willaert ́s Motet

Abstract

As extension of a previous work, analysis of ficta e recta inflections on Willaert´s Magnum haereditatis mysterium was held with basis on early conventions of cadential clausulae, causa necessitatis and causa pulchritudines over early publications in manuscript and printed books edited in part-books, choir-books and a tablature, alongside with a modern edition by Zenck. Both the nature of ficta and recta inflections occurrences, as the discrepancies on assignment between Gintzler´s tablature and Zenck´s edition have been clarified, but in opposition to the general idea about tablatures as reliable sources for deductio interpretation, once observed concomitant molle and durum hexachords in the studied sample.
