Advanced chronic liver diseases lead to severe complications that are responsible for the majority of indications of hospitalization and patients’ death. In this article the main complications of chronic liver diseases such as hepatic encephalopathy, spontaneous bacterial peritonitis and hepatorenal syndrome are discussed. The main aspects in practical clinic of these three clinical conditions with emphasis in the diagnostic and therapeutic approach are shown.
