Introduction: The kidney is an organ responsible for homeostasis. Patients with chronic renal failure need some renal replacement therapy. Several issues are related to this condition, among them we can mention differences in seroconversion rate of vaccine for hepatitis B in which this study is based. Objective: To determine the prevalence to rate of seroconversion to hepatitis B vaccine in patients with chronic renal failure and analysing the loss of immunity of these patients. Methods: This retrospective study at the Santa Casa de Misericordia of Ponta Grossa, which includes patients on dialysis and collection of epidemiological data for analyzing the factors that influence the rate of seroconversion to hepatitis B vaccine Results: The study included 211 patients in the years 2011 and 2012. Approximately 2/3 of the patients had low or no response for vaccination. Risk factors, as age and diabetes mellitus were analysed as possible causes for the low rate of seroconversion. Conclusion: Patients with diabetes mellitus and older than 60 years have lower response to the vaccine.Downloads
