Abstract

PURPOSE: Evaluate the effects from the single application of Restricted Environment Stimulation Therapy modified in 30 healthy females. METHOD: All subjects underwent one single session of Restricted Environment Stimulation Therapy modified. Blood pressure, heart rate and the test finger-to-floor distance were measured. RESULTS: It was observed a decrease in systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, mean blood pressure, and double product. The heart rate decreased with the effect of immersion and therapy united. There was also a decrease in muscle tension. CONCLUSION: This study shows that one single session of Restricted Environment Stimulation Therapy modified was enough to reduce muscle tension and enabled the subject to express her preference for one of the techniques. However, one single session of Restricted Environment Stimulation Therapy modified was not able to produce expressive changes in all the variables studied. Nevertheless, it was evidenced that 83.3 % of the subjects that underwent Restricted Environment Stimulation Therapy modified presented one or more Relaxation States.
