Everyday activities or occupations reflect habits, routines and roles. The roles insert the individual in the social structure and can against a clinical diagnosis lead to a
change in the performance of this. Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) is an example of chronic and disabling disease that alters the individual´s functionality. This study describes the occupational roles of individuals diagnosed with RA and identify the degree of importance of these roles in their lives in a rheumatology clinic in the city of Uberaba/MG. Data were collected from the Role Checklist with the RA patients in the Division of Rheumatology Out-Patients Clinic of the Federal University of Triangulo Mineiro. Twenty seven subjects were selected for the study. In the past the
roles ‘student’ and ‘friend’ were played by more subjects with RA, whereas in this were the ‘friend’ and ‘family member’, these being intended in the future. The role considered most important was ‘worker’, however is no longer played.
