Abstract

This research wished to examine the process of consolidation of social occupational therapy, based on the formation that has been practiced in undergraduate courses in public universities in the state of São Paulo. Worked up with undergraduate courses in occupational therapy in operation at the following universities: University of São Paulo - São Paulo Campus, University of São Paulo - Ribeirão Preto Campus, State University Júlio de Mesquita Filho, Federal University of São Carlos and Federal University of São Paulo, with focus concerning the teaching of social occupational therapy. It was found that, in general, the themes around the area are present in different courses of institutions of higher education studied, however, this
happens in very different way in each of them, as it pertains to:course load, number of disciplines, contents approached, human resources dedicated to area, breakdown over graduation and articulation with the professional profi le to be formed. The lack of human resources specifi cally dedicated to that fi eld was a problem found, on that account, although not merely, there are conceptual difficulties relating the area, which may not be suffi cient to meet the demands currently placed for graduation.
