Elogio da tradução: uma leitura de Seu rosto amanhã, de Javier Marías

Abstract

The fiction of the contemporary spanish writer Javier Marías is about the art of translating. Indeed, especially in his trilogy, titled Your face tomorrow (v.1: Fever and spear v.2: Dance and dream; v.3: Poison, shadow and farewell), published respectively in 2002, 2004 and 2007 in Brazil by Cia das Letras, the art of translating, mainly in the 1st volume, plays a central role in the structure of the novel. Draws attention how he transforms poetically, much of his real experience as a translator. In this sense, one of the recurring features of the work which I propose to analyze here, is the exaltation of the translator as a professional and the ethical consequences that result from it. Our study is therefore designed to check the narrative procedures of the novel, according to some concepts of the Translation’s and Translator’s Theory, as proposed by Albrecht and Kade and, most of all, according to Bausch’s theory about the translator’s role as a particular reader who re-creates the text.
