Abstract

This article will emphasize the way in which Carlos Lacerda (1914-1977), a Brazilian politician and translator, attempted to ideologically manipulate the reader in his translation of Il est Moins Cinq, by Suzanne Labin. It will initially examine certain relations between translation and politics and will then analyse the translation of Lacerda, whose political aims can be seen both in the choice of a work to translate which would reflect the Brazilian situation and in his use of paratexts such as footnotes and postfaces to spread his own political views.
