Abstract

A model for corpus-based and quantitative research in translation, named translation modalities, is presented in some detail. Derived from the procedés techniques proposal of Vinay and Darbelnet, it has been applied to a number of different situations and variables, specially in the English/Portuguese translational relationship. This paper provides a summary of the results achieved and an evaluation of the limitations and potentialities of the model.
