Abstract

This study discusses the statute which covers the nomination of speciality terms, in the names of people – the anthroponyms –, and in the names of places – the toponyms – of the Ka’apor language, a language from the Branch VIII, of the Tupi-Guarani Family (RODRIGUES, 1986), in view of the process of borrowing words and names from the Portuguese language by the Ka’apor Language as observed. It considers aspects of interculturality in translating from the Portuguese to the Ka’apor (MATO, 2002) and how the different languages – Portuguese and Ka’apor – are readjusted regardingtheir linguistic aspects so that the cultural exchanges can be established as well as the cultural interfaces present in several associations verified in Ka’apor communities, as they use names coming from the Portuguese language. It points out the Ka’apor bilingualism relations by means of analysis of the phonetic and morphosyntactic aspects, besides the semantic–pragmatic relations in the scope of the analysis of terms inserted in the Ka’apor language. It follows the principles of Socioterminology (FAULSTICH, 2006) underpinning investigations of social nature in considering the variation of the terms under focus, and studies of Onomastics in referring to individual names of people and places. It also retakes the theoretical basis of Cultural Translation, whose purposes focus on the linguistic exchange of the cultural relation.
