Abstract

In spite of the distrust of politics, especially when one considers the praxis of professional politicians and the emergence of the postmodern episteme, it is important to emphasize it as a space between men, which must be constructed in a responsible way and with the primacy in the common good. It is in this sense that we understand the work of José Saramago - as a citizen and as an artist - by promoting the valorization of a humanist-democratic content. We will argue that such axiological content, in the saramaguian novel, is realized by reason of a dialectical structure (actions plan), which harmonizes with humanism and democracy, as well as to prevent a pamphlet and dogmatic aesthetic.
