The text discusses the book The Submerged Girl, by Caitlín R. Kiernan (1969), released in 2012 in the USA, highlighting the themes of gender and madness. We relate the times of the characters in relation to the current conceptions of their different times, with regard to the images and behaviors defined for women, as well as some consequences for those who do not suit them. We emphasize some interpretations about the author's approach according to her background in paleontology, immersing herself in the mind of Imp, the character who leads us through the labyrinths of multiple femininities, feelings of guilt and loss from the anthropological and historical elements of the narrative.
