Wide Sargasso Sea and the letters of Jean Rhys: desacralizing the colonial discourse

The aim of this article is to analyze how contextual the women's writing process is, especially the literary text, taking as an object the letters of the writer Jean Rhys about the production of her post-colonial feminist novel Wide Sargasso Sea. By means of Rhys' letters, we approach the factors involved in the production of the work, from the author's conflict in the face of the representation of the mad Creole character in the English novel Jane Eyre (1847), by the canonical writer Charlotte Brontë, to the strategies to validate her work in England. We are based on post and decolonial perspectives to analyze the aspects pointed in the letters and raised by the literary text.
