Abstract

This work investigates the processes of structural elaboration of the narrative poem “A Origem do Mênstruo”, by Bernardo Guimarães. It begins with the exposition of the author's controversial situation in the literature manuals of literature, through the exposition of general aspects about his production in poetry, more specifically, his performance as an introducer of pantagruelic poetry. The theoretical assumptions for analysis are drawn from the immersion of the poem in the long tradition of the narrative poem and questions related to the grotesque type, specifically the conceptions of Victor Hugo (1802-1885) and Mikhail Bakhtin (1895- 1975), to finally analyze the poem in question.

    Doutorando em Literatura Brasileira pela Universidade de São Paulo - USP, possuí Mestrado em Letras, área de Estudos Literários, e Licenciatura em Letras, habilitação Português/Literatura, ambos pela Universidade Federal do Mato Grosso do Sul - UFMS. É professor efetivo de Literaturas de Língua Portuguesa e Teoria Literária da Universidade Estadual de Goiás - UEG, Câmpus Iporá-GO. Atua, principalmente, nos seguintes temas: poesia brasileira, poema narrativo, poema herói-cômico, historiografia literária e teoria literária.

    Doutor em Letras pela Faculdade de Ciências e Letras de Assis (1997), é Professor Associado IV da Universidade Federal de Mato Grosso do Sul (UFMS). No âmbito da crítica e da historiografia literárias, desenvolve pesquisas voltadas para três fenômenos da literatura brasileira: a) o poema narrativo brasileiro; b) a poesia brasileira contemporânea, com especial interesse sobre a produção e a leitura (análise e interpretação) de poemas nos vários níveis de ensino e c) literatura para jovens.
