Abstract

This paper aims at analyzing the constitution of soap operas’ publics and the way they interpret love relationships. It investigates, discussing the notions of publics and love, how spectators attribute meanings to this value. It then conducts an empirical analysis about a discussion forum in the internet about a Brazilian soap opera named Mulheres apaixonadas. The study reveals the importance of love in people’s lives, the perpetuation of romantic love’s features and the valorization of confluent love in the construction of contemporary love experience.
